What is the Health Anchors Learning Network?

The Health Anchors Learning Network (HALN) is a UK-wide network for people responsible for, or interested in, embedding anchor approaches in their roles.

The network provides spaces and opportunities for participants to learn with peers and experts about how anchor organisations can consciously use their resources, influence and work in partnership to improve the social determinants of health and help reduce inequalities.

The network is free and open for anyone to join. We have a growing network of colleagues from:

  • Health organisations (like trusts, hospitals, ICBs, Primary Care Networks, and more)

  • Local authorities

  • Public agencies

  • Voluntary, community and social enterprise sector

  • Education

  • Housing organisations

  • And many more!

In recent years, there has been a growing understanding of inequalities in our society, spurring organisations to take purposeful action to address the underlying economic, social and environmental causes of inequality and poor health. Widening inequalities and growing pressures on public services have also prompted questions about the role and responsibility of large organisations to tackle the wider determinants of health and to act as ‘anchor institutions’.

HALN is designed to grow around the needs of its members. Together, we'll identify areas for discussions, share ideas and resources, collaborate and problem-solve. We want to connect with, and share learning across, anchor organisations, as well as local, regional networks.
