HALN Learning Pathways

The Health Anchors Learning Network have developed a free, bespoke online learning programme to support people to learn more about anchors, and to drive anchor practices that intentionally tackle inequalities and increase social value in a place.

The Learning Pathways are designed to help you wherever you are in your anchor journey, by introducing key concepts and breaking them down into digestible tools and content.

The five modules are carefully constructed to focus on one clear learning outcome, and to guide you through a range of multimedia content. It brings together the wealth of learning gathered and generated by HALN to date.

When you’ve completed the modules, celebrate your achievement and share the programme with others with a certification of completion and email signature.

Module #1:
What is a health anchor?

  • Audience: Those new to the topic of anchors

  • Learning outcome: Gain an understanding of core health anchor concepts and strategies and keys examples of health anchors in the UK.

If you’re at the start of your anchor journey, we hope this gives you a good overview of the potential of anchor organisations and some of the first steps you might take to explore your own anchor mission.

Module #2:
Getting started as an anchor

  • Audience: Colleagues working in anchor institutions at the start of their anchor journey

  • Learning outcome: Gain an understanding of how you can begin meaningful work as an anchor organisation.

This module is about getting started. You know what a health anchor is and understand some of the opportunities ahead. A good starting point is to map what you already have under way - where energy and action already sits.

Module #3:
Creating an anchor framework or charter

  • Audience: Those looking to formalise their anchor mission

  • Learning outcome: Gain clarity on the steps to take in order to develop an anchor framework or charter to support your anchor work.

Many anchor organisations chose to create a framework that captures their anchor work. This shows their commitment to their anchor work, their objectives, and sometimes specific action plans and performance indicators.

Module #4:
Engaging stakeholders and building a movement for anchor action

  • Audience: Leaders who are seeking to engage staff, partners and communities in their anchor mission.

  • Learning outcome: Feel equipped to engage and motivate staff and communities to take action that furthers their anchor work.

This module is all about how you can build a movement around your anchor work, spreading practices to address the social determinants of health and as a result scaling impact.

Module #5:
Gathering data and measuring your progress

  • Audience: Established anchor organisations which want to improve their approach to measurement.

  • Learning outcome: Be clear on how to gather baseline data and how to refine your own indicator set.

Our last module is all about gathering data, setting indicators, and measuring your progress to create impact for your community - specifically around tackling inequalities and addressing the social determinants of health.
