Devolution and new local structures: opportunities for anchor institutions

Devolution and new local structures: Opportunities for anchor institutions

Health Anchors Learning Network invites you to this upcoming online webinar to explore the opportunities that devolution and new local structures present to anchor work being done across organisations, places, and systems.

This session will take place online (Zoom) and is open to all. Find out more about what will be covered below.

About the session

Devolution in England is the delegation of powers, programmes and funding from national government, in Westminster, to local government. The current government has committed to “deepen and widen” devolution in England and the number of devolution deals are on the rise, creating a range of new local authority structures across the country.

As local systems gain more influence over their areas, there are growing opportunities for existing anchor organisations and networks to work together with devolved authorities around shared health and wellbeing objectives. Devolved administrations often hold powers over the wider determinants of health, and can be a powerful partner for anchor organisations seeking to tackle inequalities and improve their impact within the places they are based in.

In this interactive and informative webinar - chaired by Michael Wood (Head of Health Economic Partnerships at the NHS Confederation) - we will hear from a range of speakers about the potential for effective partnership working between combined authorities, integrated care systems, and anchor institutions to address the social determinants of poor health in their areas.

Speakers:

Jane Pilkington -Director of Population Health - NHS Greater Manchester

David Buck - Senior Fellow - Public Health and Inequalities - The King's Fund

Jenni French - Housing and Health Consultant - East Midlands Combined Authority

There will also be an opportunity for you to connect with others and share your own experiences and learning.

We will explore questions like:

  • How can combined authorities support anchor work happening across organisations, places, and Integrated Care Systems?

  • How can areas capitalise on devolution deals and embed population health approaches into local growth plans?

  • How might anchor organisations and networks best work in partnership with newly devolved local authorities?

What will I gain by attending?

Join us for an opportunity to:

  • Hear from real examples of anchor organisations and integrated care systems working together with devolved authorities to improve health

  • Reflect on your own approach, and take away practical tools to support you

  • Contribute to emerging learning about anchor approaches and devolution across the UK
