Child poverty in the UK is at a record high, with an estimated 4.5 million children (31%) living below the poverty line. Tackling this national emergency has become a major priority for governments, public services and local partners across the UK.
One route to reducing child poverty is making it easier for parents to access, and stay in, good employment. For many parents - particularly lone parents - the challenge of balancing a job alongside caring for their children, or of finding good, affordable childcare, make it impossible to work. Anchor organisations are well placed to help address these challenges - not just in how they employ people but also through the actions they can take to support and strengthen the early years sector in their local area.
In this webinar we'll explore practical examples of how anchor organisations are doing just this. We’ll hear about the work being done by members of the London Anchors Institution Network (LAIN) to transfer apprenticeship levy funding to local childcare providers, as well as hearing about work being done in Scotland to support lone parents into jobs through tailored employment pathways.
Come along to find out more about how these approaches are making a difference and consider how these ideas can be adapted and applied in your own organisation and place.
